With the unemployment rate for Maasai youth at a staggering 85%, Basecamp has taken progressive steps to reduce this catastrophic number. We have been instrumental in building a $3 million Wildlife Tourism College in the heart of the Maasai Mara.
Students are offered an excellent education and immense potential to work in the vibrant tourism industry. Areas of study include tour guiding, wildlife technician, front office, housekeeping and laundry, and food production, beverage, sales and service. This investment in students will in turn support the Maasai communities, protect wildlife and the environment, and create opportunities that can change the lives of young people.
We invite you to make a gift for these scholarships. Gifts of any amount are meaningful and welcome. A gift of $3,000 provides a full scholarship — covering a year of tuition, room, and board. If you are able to cover the full tuition we will connect you with a student (you can specify their gender if you wish).
Special Climate Course in memory of Hans Christian Magnus
To honor Hans Christian Magnus, a longtime supporter of the Basecamp Foundation, a 2-year course in Applied Climate Systems has been created at the WTC that will begin in 2027.
