After a 50 year career in programs advancing the causes of youth development, international understanding and environmental conservation I am happily retired in Denver, Colorado with my wife Mindy and family. In my career I served many leadership roles and ultimately President and COO of Up with People from 1971-1995. I then served as President and CEO of the Student Conservation Association engaging young people in conserving America’s public lands for 17 years before returning to Up with People as President and CEO 2014-2019.

Mindy and I first travelled to the Mara in 2023 and realized that the work of Saruni Basecamp to support the Maasai people, preserve the Mara and protect the wildlife is a cause we could and should support.
