Nonprofit Structure

  • 1997: Basecamp Explorer Foundation in Norway was established, and is the foundational cornerstone of the Basecamp non-profit organization today.
  • 2022: Basecamp Explorer Foundation Kenya was established and manages and reports on all operations in Kenya.
  • 2010: Basecamp Explorer Foundation USA (501-c3) was established, primarily to support projects in Kenya, with select projects supported directly.

The purpose of Basecamp Foundation USA is to support philanthropic projects in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya, Africa.

The board of directors of Basecamp Explorer Foundation USA – which is comprised of Americans, Europeans, and Kenyans – is approved by Basecamp Explorer Foundation.  All Basecamp Explorer Foundation USA board members have visited the Maasai Mara, Basecamp Explorer.

BCEF-USA’s primary role is to raise funds for projects selected and managed by BCEF-Kenya. Currently they have 34 projects with 22 partners. They produce an annual report outlining the current status of the projects with a financial report for each.

The USA board of directors evaluates BCEF-Kenya project proposals and determines which ones they would like to support and be effective. BCEF-USA may support its own projects in Kenya.

Oversight and regular accountability of all contributions, distributions, management and evaluation of projects is the highest priority of this organization and our partners.
